Safety and Health Committee

What is a health and safety committee?
The committee will consist of employees and management representatives who meet at minimum every 3 months and handle any health and safety issues that may come forward in the previous months. With having the involvement of both workers and management the committee gets an in-depth practical knowledge of specific tasks that are conducted regularly and pose various safety issues to the workers as well as the full involvement at the upper management level. A benefit in having a committees setup this way allows for enhancement of a co-operative attitude among all parts of the work force toward solving health and safety related problems. If unsure if your company requires a safety and health committee refer to your legislative documents to determine what the minimum requirements are for a company like yourself.

How long does it take?
Safety & Health meeting take 30 to 60 minutes, this amount of time allows for review of old business, new business and time for discussion of all members in regards to concerns or issues they may have. To cover all areas of concern that a committee might have to handle we suggest 4-6 sessions for new committees, just allows us enough time to cover all aspects that a committee has to handle.

What items need to be reviewed with members?
As a committee you will all need to understand key elements to have a successful program. Inspections, investigations, hazard assessments, policies, disciplinary process, safe work procedures and safe work practices are just a few items that will be discussed through the sessions that we hold.
