Ergonomics

Manitoba Law states:

8.1 When an employer is aware, or ought reasonably to have been aware, or has been advised, that a work activity creates a risk of musculoskeletal injury (MSI), the employer must
a. ensure that the risk is assessed; and
b. on the basis of the assessment. Implement control measures to eliminate or reduce, so far reasonably practicable, the risk of MSI to the worker.

With Musculoskeletal Skeletal injuries (MSI) on the rise more workplaces are looking towards ergonomic programs to adopt into their workplace. These types of injuries are a result of various means but the most familiar begin repetitive motion and awkward positioning. When conducting this session participants will gain a basic understanding of ergonomics and the type of injuries that are common with MSIís as well what can be done to prevent these types of injuries in their workplace or work station.
Ergonomics is no longer just concentrated into the office environment. Many construction companies are buying into the idea of ergonomics for their work force by implementing mandatory stretching periods during the day. Simply stretching can cut the chances of an MSI occurring by half.

How long is the session?
The education aspect takes approximately 1 hour and gives the participants a basic understanding of the concept of Ergonomics and MSI.

What is reviewed in this session?
During the session participants will learn what is an MSI?, how to determine if a MSI could happen, how to properly assess their work area, common stretches and practices that will help prevent MSIís from occurring, as well as the proper reporting procedure and documentation needed in case an MSI occurs. We not only explain what we can do to prevent these injuries from occurring but what a employee must do after an incident like this occurs.
